Advanced Menu System V1.20 Go Software - ASP Members
============================= =========================
To list the manual, issue the following command
COPY AMS.LST LPT1
You will obtain a better quality of listing if you first set your printer to
IBM extended character set mode (the ■ character will appear instead of the
~ character, providing a slightly clearer manual), however this is not
necessary. The listing will need approximately 1cm (½ Inch) of paper.
Archive file format has now been changed to .Zip to ensure file fits on a
single 360K floppy disk.
ALL USERS - VERY VERY IMPORTANT
===============================
The AMS parameter file, AMS.PRM, is Key-Coded in with the .INS install file.
NEVER EDIT AMS.PRM WITH AN EDITOR!
If you do, you will have to delete the .INS file, restore the original
AMS.PRM file, and re-type your configuration using the AMS Menu
Configuration options.
KEEP THE ORIGINAL AMSMNU ARCHIVE FILE IN A SAFE PLACE - YOU WILL NEED IT IF
AMS.PRM IS EDITED OR AMS.INS IS DELETED.
The file AMS.BK! is an extra backup of AMS.PRM.
If you wish to circulate the software, it is essential that the AMSMNU archive
file is used.
Unless the original files are passed on, THE SYSTEM WILL NOT OPERATE!
IF YOU ARE UPGRADING AMS FROM A VERSION PRIOR TO VERSION 1.40 - you must use
the new .PRM file, delete the .INS file, and re-enter your configuration.
Netware Users - Very Important
==============================
Lite Users - Ensure NET is available on a search path for all users.
386, 286, ELS Users - Ensure WhoAmI is available on a search path for all users.
Temporary Access Key
====================
Until the software is registered, the program will display a Shareware
Registration screen when loaded, and will prompt users with the question
"Would You Like To Order The Software" when they exit.
To disable these slight inconveniences you may request a Temporary Key Number.
There is no charge for the supply of the Key Number, and in no way does it
commit you to purchasing the software after the trial period.
To request the key at any time, use the AMS Key Request Option, in the AMS
information menu. Fax the key request to Go Software, and we will normally
return your key within one day.
All companies requesting temporary key numbers, will also receive FREE
TELEPHONE SUPPORT whenever required, for the trial period, though due to the
cost of international calls, calls will not be made by us to countries outside
the UK, unless you specifically ask us to call collect (reverse charge).
Complementary Mice & Compact Disks On Registration
==================================================
Registration entitles you to complementary classical Compact Disks. Any
Multi-User registrations for 25 users or more, will also receive complementory
mice.
Early registrations receive additional compact disks, and, for 25-user+
networks, and additional mouse.
See help under Registration Gives You ... for more information.
USERPATH.EXE
============
This program, for use with Netware Lite Networks, is no longer included with
the shareware version of AMS software, due to file size limitations (UserPath
takes the zipped file size over a 360K disk size).
Pricing, New Versions & Competition
===================================
This is an early release of AMS which, although solving all of the problems
associated with Novell's MENU, could still have more functionality.
That functionality is on it's way! We have already decided on the major
enhancements which will become available in the releases up to version 5.
If you've taken a few months to get hold of this, it's probably already well
out of date. Hence if you're looking for a bit more from a menu system, please
bear this in mind, and fax us - what you're looking for may already be
available, and don't worry, we will still respect your evaluation period.
Alternatively, obtain the latest copy of the software from one of the
Vendors listed in the section about AutoMan.
This menu system IS Novell Menu System Compatible. Unlike other Novell menu
systems, it does not involve conversion of menu files into proprietry formats,
which although they may save you disk space, or give you other features, may
cause you problems when the menu system falls over (While all users wait for
a good menu file to be restored). If AMS falls over (nobody has complained yet,
and we hope you won't need to either), you can always firstly correct a
problem with a text editor, and secondly, return to Novell's Menu by simply
pulling together all your menu files into a single file. What's more,
unfortunately for us, it's possible somebody will come up with a better
Novell MENU Compatible menu system than even AMS, and you might want to switch
to it..... Though we doubt it!
The multiple menu files capability allows you to allocate a whole range of
menu options to individuals or groups, without having to specify the trustee
list for each option - sure to save you a significant amount of time, and
far less likely to become out of date or develop security risks.
If this is the menu you want, but not at the right price, as we're up against
some stiff competition, call us before you go elsewhere - we may be able to
do you a nicer deal!
